The palace originally belonged to Cardinal Woolsey, Henry&#8217;s Lord Chamberlain.\u00a0 When Woolsey failed to obtain Henry&#8217;s divorce from his first queen, Katherine of Aragon, he fell from favor, and Henry took Hampton Court for himself.\u00a0 It was also popular with monarchs after that, including William and Mary.<\/p>\n<p>We toured the kitchens and several monarch&#8217;s state rooms along with the gardens.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/therichardsons\/2958030613\/\" title=\"The Clock Tower at Hampton Court Palace by TheRichardsons, on Flickr\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3067\/2958030613_aa65f6ed3a_m.jpg\" alt=\"The Clock Tower at Hampton Court Palace\" align=\"right\" height=\"180\" width=\"240\" \/><\/a>The rooms were furnished with period pieces and beautiful paintings and tapestries.
